Welcome to our community!
Our Vision and Mission
As part of the international Habitat for Humanity organization, our Highland Lakes affiliate has the same mission.
Our Vision
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Our Mission
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
Our History
Established in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states and in more than 70 countries around the world. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
Our affiliate here in the Highland Lakes area began in 1995. A home is built every year in Burnet and Llano counties. To date, 29 families have been provided with decent and affordable housing.

Habitat’s homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners. We assist them to obtain an affordable mortgage which they pay to us, and we oversee the repayment. We secure financial and in-kind donations, outreach to individuals, businesses and churches for support. Our Board of Directors coordinate and manage the volunteers and manage the entire home building process and the business operations of the organization. Over the years, we have successfully recruited and retained a dedicated team of unpaid and reliable volunteers to help build homes.
